Airline Ticket Buying Tips
Be Flexible:
All of the big sites have many ways you can sort and select reservations - with different prices. One way to save on tickets can be summed up a single word -- Flexibility!
Be sure to check the box to let the systems pick 'flexible dates' during your selection process.
Fly mid-week:
When I was flying on business regularly it was obvious that monday and friday were simply nuts. You can get better prices if you fly mid-week - Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. These are off-peak days for business travelers and more seats are available, so airlines will try and fill them.
Fly from a nearby airport:
If you live near more than one airport, be sure to check flights from origination from both of them. You can save money if you are willing to drive a little farther. We spend the winters in the Rio Grange Valley of Texas and we have a choice to fly from either McAllen or Harlingen. It makes a difference - be sure to check.
